Travelling around North Cyprus, residents/visitors may notice large, 4.2m+ satellite dishes dotted about the place. There used to be many more of these when it was possible to receive Sky TV channels in North Cyprus. It was unfortunate for the people who invested in these large dish, satellite TV systems, when in 2014, several changes to the satellites that Sky use to deliver the channels to the UK, resulted in the gradual, but complete loss of Sky channels in North Cyprus. Previous fringe reception was possible with a large dish, but when Sky channels switched to new satellites with narrower beams and tighter signal footprints on the UK, even the massive 4.2m dishes could no longer gather enough signal to make it possible to watch Sky TV by satellite in North Cyprus.
Of course, there are various other ways to watch Sky TV in North Cyprus, as well as other Middle Eastern based satellite TV broadcasters who supply similar TV systems to that of Sky. OSN for example, who supply a similar English speaking channel line-up to Sky which includes Sky News.
beIN Sports supplies a satellite based TV system to the Middle East that includes what may be the World's best sports coverage, including English Premier League football and a host of other football leagues and tournaments, including the World Cup finals.
