All pet dogs in North Cyprus must have a licence which is renewed annually, every January.
Obtaining a Dog Licence for your pet is a relatively simple process which begins with having your Dog microchipped at your Veterinary Practitioner who will issue an Identification Document for Dogs and a Health and Vaccination Certificate.
In the Girne area, Dog Licences are obtained from the Girne Belediyesi Health Office which is on the left hand side at the Baris Park turn off (near the Girne Police Station at the site of the Wednesday market)
The cost of the Licence is 12 TL for a neutred male, or spayed female Dog and 35 TL for a female Dog that has not been spayed.
The Girne Belediyesi Health Office will issue you with a Dog Tag and a receipt as proof of payment for the current year which effectively is your Dog Licence.
Dog owners who have not registered their pet dogs under the scheme have no right to keep their dog and the owners of unregistered dogs will be fined according to the law.
Once your pet Dog has been registered, you should receive a text message to tell you that your Dog's Licence is due to be renewed in January, but don't rely upon receiving this message to remind you - the onus is on you to remember. Take the documentation mentioned earlier, along with your existing Dog Licence to the Girne Belediyesi Health Office, pay the appropriate fee and your existing Dog Licence will be renewed for the current year.
